Alexander Kennedy from Dai-ichi visited Japan at the end of May. Apart from
purchasing Satsuki and other bonsai for import by Dai-ichi, he visited various
experts, producers and publishers from the world of Japanese Satsuki.
Alex also sourced new supplies of bonsai soils for next year. These include
a new hard-grain Akadama in pre-sieved sacks of various grades and pre-sieved
high-quality Kanuma (no more hours spent sifting out dust!) Also a new soil
ingredient called "Ezo" which is a hard pumice that looks a little
like Kanuma. This material is quite new in Japan but is finding favour as
an additive to soils for potting pines and Junipers. These materials, plus
sieved Kiryu and Fuji grit will be available from Dai-ichi at the beginning
of next year.
